More than 100 Spanish and international bodegas presented 420 different wines at the second edition of the Salón SolWines trade fair in Málaga. This year, in addition to the whites and rosés exhibited at the fair in 2016, the event included a special new category for “peculiar” wines. One wine in this section attracting special attention was a Fondillón recuperated by MG Wines after 10 years (100 per cent Monastrell, or Mourvèdre) and distributed by Picking Málaga – with just 120 bottles available in Málaga. Held once again at the El Pórtico de Velázquez restaurant, the event was co-sponsored by the provincial government (Diputación) and Sabor a Málaga (Tastes of Málaga) promotional body.
According to SolWines honorary president and leading local food and wine critic Enrique Bellver, “White and rosé wines are becoming the most thriving in the sector, gaining increasing popularity among the general public. The Costa del Sol, their third market in Spain, is the ideal place to hold an event dedicated exclusively to the promotion of this type of wine.” /
