The iconic Guggenheim contemporary art museum in Bilbao is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Designed by celebrated architect Frank Gehry, the building radically transformed the northern Spanish city’s cultural and tourist image. Gehry employed advanced software used in the aerospace industry in its construction, which extends over 24,000 square metres and comprises 33,000 reflective titanium panels interconnected with stone and glass shapes. The interior is designed around a spacious, light-filled atrium with views of Bilbao’s estuary and surrounding hills.
