For most people Ronda is best known for its venerable Roman past, historical buildings, picturesque cliff setting, excellent country-style cuisine and sweeping agricultural lands. In recent years, however, it has also attracted international attention as the home (10 kilometres from the city) of one of Europe’s most spectacular private motorsport complexes.
Ascari Race Resort takes its name from Alberto Ascari, the only Italian driver to have won two Formula 1 world championships for Ferrari. Acknowledged as a supreme exponent of sportsmanship and fearlessness on the track, Ascari’s legend is described as the linchpin of the resort’s philosophy and approach to motorsport.
The facility was designed both to indulge the needs and dreams of motorsport lovers and to cater for private corporate events and promotional presentations. Underpinned by personalised attention, it was crafted in an exclusive but informal style, with a key objective being respect for the landscape and the environment.
With a full circuit 5,425 metres long – the longest track in Spain – and a consistent width of 12.2
metres, Ascari can be sub-divided into three different sections or combinations, enabling separate events or aspects of driver training to be held simultaneously. The 26 corners of the anti-clockwise circuit are divided into 13 right-hand and 13 left-hand turns, offering a balanced course for both driver and vehicle – a mix of tight bends and sweeping curves. Further challenges are provided by bends with up to 18 per cent banking, 12 per cent ascents and descents, and demanding chicanes.
The backdrop is highlighted by mountains and native woodland, in a terrain “intentionally devoid of advertising boards and other manifestations of commerce common to other race circuits.” Within that same brief, all the passive safety installations have been designed to be “as visually low-key as possible”.
In addition to the main track, facilities include skidpan and kart, buggy and 4×4 tracks, a 300-car indoor parking garage, a clubhouse with terrace, swimming pool and restaurant, a conference hall, a meeting room, hospitality points and a heliport.
The resort’s other main services include 24-hour security surveillance, in-house catering, events management and coordination, driving academy, internal and external shuttle, and ambulance and medical staff.
Ascari also offers club membership, with unlimited access to the track, exclusive custom racing equipment, preferential conditions for services, and invitations to exclusive events. In short… “the place to enjoy your greatest passion together with family and friends”.
